Toledo

Today we went on an excursion to the medieval town of Toledo. This once served as the capital of 'Spain' and the settlement dates back to the BCE. We met our guide at the base of the city and she took us to a lovely overlook across the river so we could get a good perspective of the town.

She then took us to a workshop that specializes in steel and filigree work. It was interesting to see how steel is forged and amazing how small and precise the filigree work is. Many of the kids are bringing home weapons they purchased at this shop. Sorry!

The remainder of the walking tour was up and down the narrow and winding roads of the city. We saw an ancient gothic cathedral, a Jewish synagogue and the church where el Greco's most famous work hangs. The Burial of Count Orgaz had never been my favorite of pieces of art but our guide, Alejandra, did and excellent job of explaining all the details. I think some of the boys had a little crush on her...

After some free time we jumped back on the bus and headed back to Madrid. This was our 'last supper' and it was really good. Then back to the hotel to try and pack.

See you all soon!
